Cafe & Restaurant


Our Chef creates mouth-watering dishes from the best fresh local produce... including the finest meat and smallgoods from an outstanding local butcher.

Being so close to the Port of Nelson means fresh local seafood also features on the Maruia River Lodge menu – like delectable Nelson scallops and deep sea fish.

Our dining room has a restaurant feel, with individual tables.  Dress code is relaxed.

Mussel Chowder

Queen Scallop Mornay.
Salmon Tart with a rocket and purple onion salad.
Fresh fish with salt and pepper coating, topped with a chive béarnaise sauce and seasonal vegetables.
Venison pie: Venison slow cooked in juniper berries and red wine with seasonal vegetables.
Coconut and lime cheese cake with grape salsa.
Triple chocolate brownie served with chocolate caramel sauce and vanilla pod ice cream.
The menu will vary with seasonal produce from our own gardens and Nelson markets.
If you have any special dietary requirements, food allergies, or major dislikes, please let us know when you make your booking; as we are 34 km from the nearest township, we would like to be prepared and provide you with the best meals possible. 


In 2011 we opened the Maruia River Lodge Café. The café is open most days between 10am and 4pm.


The café utilises the Lodge's bar, lounge and dining room for brunch, lunches or morning and afternoon tea. Group bookings are most welcome.

We use Pomeroys TOXIC coffee and Specialty Teas.

We use our own greenhouse and vegetable garden to provide the freshest salads and our free range chickens provide all of our eggs for the kitchen.
